Splitter in Logisim — Combine & Split Multi-Bit Buses

Pack individual 1-bit wires into a multi-bit bus or unpack a bus into individual bit branches (bit0 through bit7).

How the Splitter Works in Logisim

A Splitter bridges the gap between multi-bit buses and single-bit gates. Its trunk pin (bus) connects to a multi-bit wire (default 4 bits), while its fanned-out branch pins (b0, b1, b2, ...) expose each individual bit starting from the least significant bit (bit0).

In Logisim Revisited, you can configure both the trunk Data Bits (width) and the number of fanned-out branches (inputs, from 2 to 8). Bit 0 always corresponds to the weight-1 (LSB) wire, while higher-numbered branches carry successively higher powers of two.

Use a Splitter whenever you want to feed a 4-bit Counter or Register into individual logic gates (such as a 7-segment decoder) or combine single-bit Carry/Sum outputs into a multi-bit bus for a Hex Digit Display.

Tip: Always check which branch is bit0 (LSB) versus the most significant bit before wiring a Splitter to an Adder or Hex Digit Display.
