Buffer Gate in Logisim
Passes its input logic value unchanged (0 → 0, 1 → 1) while converting floating Z inputs into explicit Error (E) states.

How the Buffer Works in Logisim
A Buffer is a single-input triangle gate without an inversion bubble. It outputs the same logic level as its input (0 → 0, 1 → 1) across 1 to 32 bits.
In Logisim, a Buffer isolates upstream nets from downstream drivers and validates that a signal is actively driven: if its input is floating (Z), the Buffer outputs Error (E). If you need a gate that can disconnect its output to Z using an enable pin, use a Controlled Buffer (Tri-State Buffer) instead.
Tip: If you want to connect multiple outputs to a shared bus wire, use a Controlled Buffer (Tri-State Buffer) rather than a plain Buffer.
Buffer Pins & Pinout
| Pin | Direction | Width | Location & Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| in0 (in) | Input | 1–32 bits | Located at (-30, 0). Signal to buffer. |
| out0 (out) | Output | 1–32 bits | Located at (0, 0). Outputs in0 when driven to 0 or 1, or E if floating/invalid. |
Buffer Truth Table & Behavior
| Input A | Output Y |
|---|---|
| 0 | 0 |
| 1 | 1 |
| Z (floating) | E |
| E (conflict) | E |
